Codex usage and reset-credit alerts on your iPhone

Get an encrypted notification when a new Codex rate-limit reset credit arrives, before an unused one expires, when usage reaches 80% or 95%, and when your limit resets.

Updated

What you get

#

Ntfyx checks your Codex usage on your own computer and sends only the alert text, end-to-end encrypted, to your iPhone. The first check sends one summary; later checks send only changes.

AlertWhen
New Codex reset creditA rate-limit reset credit was added to your account
Reset credit expires in 3 days / 24 hoursAn unused credit is close to its expiry date
Codex usage at 80% / 95%Once per usage window
Codex limit resetA window that was at least half used has reset
Usage limit reached / available againCodex reports that ordinary usage is blocked, then allowed again

Set it up

#

Install and connect ntfyx CLI 0.1.2 or later first, or run ntfyx upgrade. The setup command installs a systemd user timer on Linux or a LaunchAgent on macOS that checks every 15 minutes. Use --interval to change the period (5 minutes or more) and --remove to uninstall.

Terminal
ntfyx setup codex-usage --dry-run
ntfyx setup codex-usage

Try one check

#

A dry run reads your current usage and prints the alerts it would send, without sending anything or saving state.

Terminal
ntfyx watch codex-usage --dry-run

Check the path before enabling a schedule

#

The dry run above shows your own usage locally and makes no notification or state-file change. Once the preview looks right, run one real check. On its first run the watcher sends a single summary, not a backlog of old threshold alerts. Confirm you can read that summary in the paired Inbox before installing the repeating task.

Terminal
ntfyx watch codex-usage --once
Ntfyx Web Inbox showing a Codex usage summary with a five-hour window and a reset credit.
Real Ntfyx formatter and local encrypted Web test, with invented account usage. This is not a physical iPhone capture or a claim about your account.

How it works

#

Ntfyx starts your installed Codex in its local app-server mode and makes a read-only usage request, the same data Codex shows in its own status view. It never reads the Codex login file and never redeems a reset credit. It keeps a small state file next to your Ntfyx credentials so each alert is sent once.

Limits

#

You need to be signed in to Codex with a ChatGPT plan that has usage limits. The Codex app-server interface is marked experimental. If a Codex update changes it, checks stop with an error instead of guessing. Redeeming a reset credit stays in Codex.

Verification and failure behavior

#

Checked 30 September 2026 with Codex 0.158.0: a real account dry run read usage without redeeming a credit. Automated tests used controlled usage snapshots with the real local encrypted relay and a programmatic receiver; they covered threshold and reset-credit changes without spending account credits.

These checks do not establish physical iPhone delivery. If login, the experimental interface, or transport fails, inspect the command or scheduler error; do not delete state just to force another alert.

ntfyx setup codex-usage --remove
