Ntfyx FAQ: notifications, agents, privacy and plans

What Ntfyx does, which platforms it supports, how Topics work, and what encryption protects.

What is Ntfyx?

#

Ntfyx does two things. It sends end-to-end encrypted notifications from command-line tools and shell scripts to your iPhone, and it lets AI agents and scripts ask you questions that you answer before they continue. A computer sends a message or question to an iPhone and optional phone-authorized Web Inbox.

The name’s subtitle is “notify x to me”. It supports ordinary notifications as well as Allow / Deny, choice and text replies.

Which platforms can I use?

#

The standalone CLI is available for macOS and Linux. The browser Inbox is online and requires authorization from a compatible iPhone build. The iPhone app and its purchases are awaiting App Store review; an App Store download is not yet announced. There is no Android app in this release.

Can I use Ntfyx with ChatGPT or Claude?

#

Agents that can run the CLI or launch a local stdio MCP server can use the notification and question tools, subject to their host’s permissions. The documented Claude Code permission adapter has a specific tested scope. Ntfyx is not a published ChatGPT or Claude app-directory integration, and local stdio support does not imply that a cloud chat interface can launch a program on your computer.

Finding this documentation in AI search is separate from connecting an agent.

What does a Topic mean?

#

A Topic is a subscription channel with a name you choose, such as Work or Backups. Free provides one active Topic and Plus up to twenty. You can attach Sources and an optional browser to an existing Topic without buying a second Topic. Device, source, storage and rate limits apply to both plans.

Can the server read my messages?

#

Clients encrypt message titles, bodies, choices and replies before sending them. The relay stores ciphertext; intended receivers decrypt locally. The service still processes routing identifiers, timing, sizes and notification tokens. Encryption does not conceal all metadata, protect a compromised device, or replace an independent security review.

Lost keys cannot be recovered by support.

Will restoring Plus restore my messages?

#

No. Apple purchase restoration restores the entitlement, not encryption keys or expired history. Keep an encrypted recovery package and its separate recovery code if you want to migrate your Inbox. Deleting the Inbox does not cancel an Apple subscription.
